Abstract
In this work, the manufacture and testing of a sensor made of fiber optics based on a Mach-Zehnder type interferometric scheme are showing. The system is building by the consecutive joining of single-mode-multilmode-single-mode-multimode-single-mode fiber segments. This geometry allows the input beam to be separated into two trajectories to recombine and generate interference from them. The device's output signal is a function of the beams' phase difference, which in turn depends on the deformation induced by curvatures. The results indicate that the array has a linear response for curvatures from 0 to 1.4 m-1 sensitivity of -18.735 nm / m-1 and a standard deviation of 0.210 nm. Additionally, the presented system shows a component of simple manufacture, low cost, and potential application of being incorporated in real systems.
